Reflecting on music as a “healing agent”

Have you ever been touched by a piece of music? Whether the lyrics, or the instrumentals? Have you ever had a major emotional response? Been brought to tears… smiling ear to ear… moved to move your body?? Moved across some type of astral plane? Healed by the tones and notes you hear and your body feels? IF so… which piece is that for you? Please share!

For me, my first really strong musical response was to Kitaro’s album, Kojiki. The first time I had a response of that nature, I was with some friends, and I started feeling “heavy”. I sat myself in the middle of one of their living rooms on a straight backed chair while I listened to the album and I swear I was transported. It was like I was having a dream, but I was awake, being moved by the music. I had interactions with others in a different time and space. Some of the other people were familiar to me, but in other forms. That experience shook me. To this day, I can’t explain it, but it stays with me.

Feeling tension?

That piece of music still moves me. Just today, I woke up with a massive headache, and a neck strain. It gripped the back of my neck and the tension wrapped and moved up into the back and top of my head. I stepped away, and took some time. I put in my AirPod Pro’s and laid down on my bed with a support pillow under my neck. I set an alarm for an hour later and put Apple Music on playing Kojiki. Before the album was done playing or the alarm went off, I felt refreshed enough to get back up and go about my day. I didn’t heal me completely. But the tension was gone from my head and neck. I still feel it a bit in my upper back, but it no longer feels debilitating. It’s something that I can get through the day with.

Is there a piece of music that does this for you? Or something similar? I’d love to hear about it. Please share!
